About Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram 2024

Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram is a health security program which is provided to provide proper information related to the comprehensive care that the children in this community require so that they can continue their lives without having to worry about the fatal life-threatening diseases that they are going through. This program involves screening children from birth to 18 years of age for four Ds- Defects at birth, Diseases, Deficiencies, and Development delays, spanning 32 common health conditions for early detection and free treatment and management, including surgeries at the tertiary level. Children who are going to help conditions will be provided immediate services through the development of this prestigious scheme and there will be treatment provided to the children who are suffering from different types of disease free of cost through the development of this scheme.

Features Of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram

  • Child screening under RBSK is at two levels community level and facility level. While facility-based newborn screening at public health facilities like PHCs / CHCs/ DH, will be by existing health manpower like Medical Officers, Staff Nurses & ANMs, the community-level screening will be conducted by the Mobile health teams at Anganwadi Centres and Government and Government aided Schools.
  • All preschool children below 6 years of age would be screened by Mobile Block Health teams for deficiencies, diseases, and developmental delays including disability at the Anganwadi centre at least twice a year. Tool for screening for 0-6 years is supported by pictorial, job aids specifically for developmental delays. 
  • For developmental delays children would be screened using age-specific tools specifically and those suspected would be referred to DEIC for further management.
  • School children aged 6 to 18 years would be screened by Mobile Health teams for deficiencies, diseases, developmental delays including disability, and adolescent health at the local schools at least once a year. The tool used is a questionnaire (preferably translated to a local or regional language) and clinical examination.

Eligibility Criteria 

The applicant must follow the following eligibility criteria to be eligible for this scheme:-

  • The services aim to cover children of 0-6 years of age in rural areas and urban slums in addition to children enrolled in classes 1st to 12th in Government and Government Schools. 
  • It is expected that these services will reach about 27 crores of children in a phased manner. 
  • The children have been grouped into three categories because different sets of tools would be used and also a different set of conditions could be prioritized.
