About Saranya Self Employment Scheme

This programme was approved by GO(P)No. 81/2010/Labor, dated July 24, 2010. The State Government’s Saranya Self Employment Scheme, Saranya, is intended to help the most disadvantaged and marginalise women in the State, including widows, divorcees, deserters, spinsters over the age of 30, unmarried mothers of Scheduled Tribes, people with disabilities, and patients who are bedridden. To begin self-employment projects, interest-free loans up to 50,000 rupees are provided, of which 50% is reimbursed as government assistance up to a maximum of 25,000 rupees through the Employment Department. 60 equal monthly payments will be required for repayment. The applicant must send her beneficiary contribution of 10% of the money needed for the enterprise if it exceeds the cap of Rs. 50000. In addition, the beneficiary is required to pay 3% interest at a set rate for each sum she receives beyond Rs. 50000.

Objective of Saranya Self Employment Scheme

The Kerala Saranya Self Employment Scheme primary goal is to provide loans to Kerala’s underprivileged and segregated women who are members of Scheduled Tribes including widows, uneducated women, divorced women, etc. The government would offer Rs 50,000 in financial aid through the Kerala Saranya self-employment programme to start a business. Kerala Saranya Self Employment Scheme Monitoring

  • The district employment officer and employment officials of the local employment exchange will oversee the Kerala Saranya Self Employment Scheme.
  • The controlling authority in this plan is the director of employment.
  • The recipient must make instalment payments at regular intervals of time.
  • Two reminders will be sent to the beneficiary if they don’t pay the three consecutive instalments.
  • If the beneficiary does not respond to the reminder, revenue recovery action will be taken to recover the loan amount plus interest.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Except for spinsters, all unemployed widows, divorcees, deserters, spinsters over 30 years old, and unmarried mothers of scheduled tribes who are on the living register of an employment exchange with an age restriction of 18 to 55 years are eligible to apply under this programme.
  • The beneficiary’s family’s annual income cannot exceed Rs. 100.000 in order to qualify for this scheme’s benefits.
  • Those with professional or technical qualifications will get preference.

The following are the definitions for the aforementioned categories:-

  1. Widows- Widows are ladies whose husbands have passed away and who have not yet remarried. The village official, the gramme Panchayat president, the municipal corporation chairman, or the corporation’s mayor must be contacted for a widow certificate.
  2. Divorced women- Women who have been divorced by their husbands and have been issued a divorcee certificate by a court or a religious organisation fall under this group. No religious boundaries apply to this group of ladies. The divorce decree should reflect that the woman was still single when the application was submitted.
  3. Deserted woman- Women who have been abandoned by their husbands or whose husbands have been missing for the past seven years are referred to be deserted. These women must present a certificate from the tahsildar, and the certificate must also specify that they have not yet had another marriage.
  4. Spinsters- Women who were single on April 1 of the current year and had reached the age of 30. The local officer must be contacted for the certificate.
  5. Unmarried mothers- women who are scheduled tribal members and who have not been married but have had children. Unmarried moms must get a certificate from the village official that states the women’s caste and community in clear language.

Conditions for Obtaining Loans Over Rs. 50,000

Beneficiary contributions of 10% of the loan amount and 3% flat-rate interest must be made if the beneficiary wants to receive a loan over Rs. 50000. In addition, businesses that are operating profitably and have repaid 50% of their loan balance may be eligible for further loans up to 80% of the initial loan amount at a low-interest rate to grow their operations. The recipients of the Kerala Saranya self-employment programme are not obliged to put up any type of security to receive the loan amount.
