The Government of India is all set to roll out the PM Kisan Bhai Scheme. Under this scheme, the government is going to help small and marginal farmers who do not have the capacity to hold their produce in warehouses. The government will provide subsidies on the storage cost of the produce. Now farmers will be able to retain their crops for a minimum of 3 months post harvest. This scheme has been launched in order to break the Monopoly of traders in deciding the prices of the crop. The first phase of the scheme will be piloted in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. The government is going to spend Rs 170 crore in 3 years for the implementation of this scheme

• The main objective of the Kisan Bhai Scheme is to provide a warehousing facility to the farmer
• So that they will be able to store their produce and sell them at a better price
• The government is going to provide them with warehouses free of cost
• This scheme will improve the financial condition of the farmers
• Other than that the farmers will also become self-dependent
• With the implementation of this scheme, the farmers will be empowered and they will get to retain their crops for a minimum of three months post-harvest

Components Of PM Kisan Bhai Scheme

• There are two components of the Kisan Bhai Scheme which are warehousing rental subsidy and prompt repayment incentive
• Small and marginal farmers as well as farmers’ producer organisations will be eligible for the benefit of this scheme
• Beneficiaries will be eligible for the warehousing rental subsidy benefit of 4 rupees per quintal per month respective of the rate of warehousing rental charges
• The government has proposed that storage in centers will be provided for a maximum of 3 months
• Products stored for 15 days or less will not be eligible for the subsidy
• The incentive will be calculated on a day-to-day basis
