Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana 2023: Phase 3rd Launched, Do Registration

Before jumping on the topic of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana 2023, first, talk about What is Thalassemia? So Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that transfers from parents to their children. In thalassemia the hemoglobin level in the body is very less which creates problems and to treat the disorder there will be a need for a blood transfusion. It is a temporary method to cure it. For permanent treatment, we need to go for a Bone Marrow transplant which is a very expensive method of treatment. So, the Union Health Minister of India, Bharati Pravin Pawar introduced Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana in 2017 and successfully completed the 2 phases. Under this Yojana 365 bone marrow transplants were performed successfully, during the 2 phases of this Yojana. Now the 3rd Phase of this Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana 2023 is launched which offers financial help for the treatment.

About Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana 2023

The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Bharati Pravin Pawar introduced Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana 2023 on the occasion of World Thalassemia Day. The Yojana is conducted under the National Health Mission. The Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana is supported by Coal India Limited (CIL) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Every year Rs. 10 lakhs will be offered to eligible patients who are suffering from thalassemia for bone marrow transplant in 10 hospitals throughout the country. From now on Aplastic anemia and Matched unrelated donors patients are covered under this yojana. Now a web portal is launched for the patients to do their online registration for receiving financial assistance for their treatment. From 2017 to 30th of April 2023, 356 bone marrow transplants were performed successfully and out of them 139 transplants occurred during phase-1 and 217 transplants occurred in phase-2.

• The Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana 2023 Phase-3 was launched on the 8th of March 2023 on World Thalassemia Day. 
• Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare launched the Standard Treatment Guideline for Sickle Cell Anaemia. 
• Rs. 10 lakh will be offered to eligible patients who are suffering from thalassemia for bone marrow transplant in 10 hospitals throughout the country.

Objective of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana

The main aim beyond the implementation of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana 2023 Phase-3 is to offer financial assistance to eligible patients for their bone marrow treatment. Because bone marrow transplant is a permanent cure for thalassemia. There are 10,000 thalassemia children born every year and 9,200 children are suffering from Aplastic Anaemia. These poor children generally belong to rural or economically weak families who don’t have sufficient knowledge about the disease or have no money for treatment. A bone marrow transplant is a permanent cure. Many families are those who have closely related family members as a donor for bone marrow, but due to unavailability of funds, they don’t do proper treatment. So, Coal India Limited (CIL) as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is taking responsibility for providing funds for treatment in 10 hospitals.

Patients need to fulfil the following criteria for registration under the Portal:

Workflow of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana

Here some steps are given which is necessarily followed by the patient for applying:

1. Detection of Disease
2. Matching of HLA with the Donor
3. Must follow all the required eligibility criteria
4. Submit Application on TBSY portal/Thalassemics India/Hospital/CIL and its subsidiaries
5. Application scrutiny by Thalassemics India
6. If the patient forgot any documents then it will be submitted to them
7. Applications complete in all respects sent to the screening committee
8. Examination & Recommendation by a screening committee
9. Approval by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GOI
10. Application forwarded to hospital & Intimation to patient
11. Patient to contact hospital regarding transplant
12. Transplant as scheduled by the hospital
13. Closure of application

Steps for Doing Online Registration for Yojana

Patients need to follow the steps given below for registration:

• Patients first need to visit the Thalassemia Bal Sewa website of the Ministry of Coal.

• The homepage will appear on your screen.
• Here you have to click on the Patient Login option.

• Now click on the New Patient Registration button.

• Now the registration page will be on your screen, where need to enter the following details:
  • Name
  • Father’s name
  • DOB
  • Sex
  • ABHA id
  • Age
  • Disease report
  • State
  • City
  • Annual family income
  • Matched related donor
  • Mobile number, etc.
• After filling all these details click on the submit button to complete the process.

Steps to do Patient Login under the Portal

• Patients first need to visit the official website of the Ministry of Coal.
• The homepage will appear on your screen.
• Here you have to click on the Patient Login option.

• Now click on the Registered Patient Login option.

• A new page will be on your display, enter your mobile number and click on the OTP button.
• Now you will receive an OTP on your mobile, enter it on the given column.
